Copper Whisky Double Pot Still Wash Still Spirit Still
The copper stills used in the production of single malt whiskey are commonly referred to as double pot stills. This is because the process involves two separate stills, which work together to produce the finished product. The first still is called the wash still, while the second is known as the spirit still.

In the wash still, barley mash is heated, causing the alcohol to vaporize. This process is known as distillation and is the key to creating a high-proof whiskey. The vapor is then collected and passed through a condenser, where it is cooled and converted back into a liquid. The resulting liquid contains a high percentage of alcohol and is known as the wash.

The wash is then transferred to the spirit still, where it undergoes a second distillation. In this process, the remaining impurities are removed and the alcohol content is further raised. The resulting liquid, called the spirit, is then aged in oak barrels, which impart unique flavors and aromas to the whiskey.
