Hybrid Pot Stills With Double Column

Hybrid stills can be used to produce a variety of spirits from whiskey to vodka and gin. The versatility of these hybrid distilling systems has gained them wide popularity among the craft distilling community.

If your ceiling height is too low or you are wanting to have the versatility of multiple columns, then placing 2 or 3 columns on a stand beside the pot still is an option. Multiple columns are also much easier to access and observe from the ground when compared to single tall columns. It is important to note that, If you are running your spirit through all the columns in series, the efficiency of your still will decrease with each column added. In this respect, it is better to use a single column if possible.

Column stills work under the same basic principles. Each plate on a column still acts as a separation step similar in concept to how a kettle separates materials. The comparison isn't one-to-one, meaning that running three plates in a column will likely not give you the exact same result as triple distilling on a pot still.

This kind of equipment can be used for moonshine distilling of vodka, gin, whiskey, brandy, Milk Heating. 

A Dual Pot Still is used in some distilleries, made up of a Wash Still and a Spirit Still. In this set-up, a Wash Still performs a stripping run where the ethanol present in the wash after fermentation is distilled to collect what's known as low wines. These are then transferred to the Spirit Still for a second distillation.

Usually a Spirit Still is only about a third of the overall volume of the Wash Still, but this can vary depending on the process being followed.

A Dual Pot Still can be built in copper or a combination of copper and stainless steel, and built with various neck designs and lyne arm slopes. If a column is required, it can be built as a single column or split to shorten. Other configurations to consider include a gin basket, single or double thumper, and a shorter column for Whisky distilling.
